After the Antique: Turning to Dexter, his helmet cast with centaurs fighting soldiers, and crouching panthers below, the peak with a pair of eagles. His chest with a sash and a toga tied at his left shoulder. Raised on its original gilt patinated bronze shaped plinth. From the private collection of a retired, now deceased member of BADA.

Stamped rubbed to the reverse of bronze , GS Medaille D’OR 1867

  • The foundry stamped GS most likely refers to the Parisian founder G. Servant. Servant specialized in Egyptian Revival and Antique reproduction pieces and was a medallist at the major international exhibitions between 1867 and 1887.”

Son of King Telamon, he plays an important role and is portrayed as a towering figure and a warrior of great courage in Homer’s ‘lead’ and in the ‘Epic Cycle’, a series of epic poems about the Trojan Wars.

The patina is delightfully worn from light handling over the years.
